We don’t know much about Leroy Garnett except that he was a remarkable pianist in spite of his blindness. This rag time and boogie composer was born in 1897 in Indianapolis. He probably moved to Chicago with his mother in 1910, and died in the same town in 1933.

In 1929 he recorded 8 tracks for Paramount with the singers James Wiggins and Marie Griffin. Among these songs were the title Chain em down. His boogie Louisiana glide is a good example of the Barrel house style: a rag time melody with a boogie bass.
